Perhaps a bit of explanation is required, and probably should have been provided earlier, but let's just suffice that Randall started this blog, and leave it at that.
This is a very long-awaited trip. As many of you know, we planned on going to Greece for our honeymoon, but I had to study for the bar, and over the intervening years (I won't say how many, but I graduated from law school the week before we got married. You do the math.), other events conspired that we just could never seem to get here. That is not to say that we haven't had fabulous trips and visited all seven continents, but for too many years, Greece still eluded us.
Now, we have finally made time for this journey, and we decided to do this trip as a contrast to the other adventures we have had. We only have hotel reservations at the beginning and the end in Athens, and a car for the rest of the time to drive around where we want, when we want, and stay in an area as long as we want. On Monday afternoon about an hour before the taxi was expected to arrive to take use to the airport, we mapped out a loose schedule, but having been on those trips where we were constrained by reservations and deadlines, we just did not want that pressure to have to finish seeing everything in a rush and then race to the next destination. This way, we can casually get around take things as they come. If we want to spend a half a day in the museum to read about each and every exhibit, we will. If we want to go back to see a ruin for a second or third time, we will. If we hear about a great place to visit, we will go there too.
I will note that we, well really I have a few places I need to see. Some in obscure areas of the western coast, and the northern Pelopenneses, but our wanderings are not limited (except by country limits--as much as there are some areas in Albania and/or FYR of Macedonia that I'd like to explore, we're not going there--this trip).
So that's it. Laid back and stress free, which isn't to say we won't be vigorously seeing everything we can--that's just not in my genetic makeup.
Thank you for sharing this with me (us). I hope to see you all soon and share stories and pictures--Randall can share his stories too, but my pictures are always better.
Btw, notwithstanding this blog, I am also keeping a detailed journal of our daily activities and observations.
