Nemea - Temple of Zeus

You may wonder with all the sites that we have seen how one can distinguish itself from another.  I think one of the gems of this trip has been the Temple of Zeus at Nemea.  While we have certainly see other bigger, more preserved temples, even for Zeus, this was the first where we were allowed to interact with the ruins, rather than merely walk around them.

This meant that I could walk through the delineated internal temple spaces, analyze the subterranean chambers, and get a sense of the spatial relationship of the proportion of front and side columns and their immense height.  There were even internal stairs!

It was enlightening and humbling.

Fortunately, it appears that this temple is actually actively being reconstructed, and in the last 10 years, they have put up 3 more columns, and have the lintels for one corner section ready to hoist!  Another reason to come back to Greece.
