Knossos - Part II, House of the High Priest and Caravan Serai

When we talk about a Minoan settlement, these were towns or cities, and covered vast expanses of land.  After 3000 years, most of the original buildings have either been repurposed, used for building materials or buried under 3' of dirt.  Still, if you find a good palace or settlement, chances are there are a lot of other little archaeological sites nearby.

Further down the street, down a private driveway for which there was no sign, but only a Google map tag, was the High Priest's House.  Mr. Evans has also gotten to this site as well, but decided to decorate it in blue, not red.

I will note that this site was SO well hidden, perhaps on purpose by the owners, that we passed it a few times before we realized where it had to be, and since there were no easy places to turn around to try again for the correct angle to approach the 45° angle and 45° slope of the driveway, we ultimately parked around the corner back at Knossos, took our lives into our hands, and walked along the highway.

And while we were walking we also saw a bit of this other archaeological site, the Caravan Serai, which was also not open.  That said, this site used to house all the frescos which have since been relocated to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, so I suppose there is no real need to staff this place anymore.
